Willie Akins Quartet July 20, 2012

Revered St. Louis saxophonist Willie Akins' quartet also includes drummer Montez Coleman, bassist Willem Von Hombracht (of St. Louis) and pianist Simon Rowe of Fargo-Moorhead. Akins is best known for his bold, straight-ahead tone on tenor, but he's also capable mixing things up with subtle, complex musical touches as well. Although he doesn't play soprano sax nearly as often as his tenor, Akins is a master of that instrument as well.
