Ensemble Vivant
presents
Widor et Piazzolla
Scheduled for release in early 2008, Ensemble Vivant's new CD of beautiful post-romantic French chamber music features composers Claude Debussy, Camille Saint-Saens and Charles-Marie Widor. The recording includes the North American premiere of Widor's 'Soirs d'Alsace', op. 52, a suite of four pieces for piano, violin and cello, composed in 1908. Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937) was a renowned organist and prolific composer whose output included meticulously crafted chamber music, orchestral, choral and vocal works. In this special concert, the dynamnic Ensemble Vivant will perform Widor's 'Soirs D'Alsace', along with music by Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), the brilliant, iconoclastic tango musician and composer, who posthumously has become a national hero in Argentina and a cult figure for classical and jazz lovers worldwide. The first disc of Ensemble Vivant's two-volume CD collection of 'Music by Astor Piazzolla and His Contemporaries' will be released in the fall of 2008. Ensemble Vivant's performance of Piazzolla's 'Fuga y Mysterio' (from the 1968 tango opera 'Maria de Buenos Aries') will be featured in an animated short film that is scheduled for worldwide release.
