Who controls the Internet? Big Telecom? Big Government? An Invisible cyber-hand? Does anyone? Should anyone?

The Manhattan Libertarians invite you to join us on March 12 when Kinsey Casey of NetCompetition.org, and Paul Garrin of FreeThe.net discuss Net Neutrality, internet competition and how to free the internet from corporate control.

NetCompetition.org is an industry supported group whose mission is to “create a forum to promote competitive internet choices for consumers through an open, rigorous, and illuminating discussion and debate of "net neutrality" legislation/regulation”. Members include the American Cable Association, AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner Cable and other telephone and cable industry companies.

Paul Garrin and FreeThe.net get right to the root of the problem – that is the Internet’s “root zone” where top level domains like .com and .net come from. They ask why Network Solutions or anyone else should control your web address. They do more than ask. They have set up their own servers in order to offer you “dot.anything”. To quote the FreeThe.net website “Only a CRITICAL MASS of CREATIVE PEOPLE can save our freedom of speech, privacy and access from the complete corporate control over the Internet…”
