Glasgow-based artist David Shrigley is to launch his new book with an event in his home town.

To celebrate the publication of his new collection of artwork, artist, illustrator and filmmaker David Shrigley is curating a free event at Glasgow indie music venue Mono on the 23rd September.

David will play an exclusive DJ set and show some of his best animations, as well as signing copies of the book. A golden ticket will be hidden in...side one copy on the night, allowing one lucky fan to win the original artwork from the launch poster. There will also be a rare performance by Correcto, one of David’s favourite bands, featuring Franz Ferdinand’s Paul Thomson and Turner Prizewinner Richard Wright.

David Shrigley’s work is instantly recognizable, his childlike black and white drawings putting an insightful and darkly humorous spin on the ordinary and the mundane. His work has been exhibited all over the world, including in the Tate Modern in London and the MoMA in New York. He has created videos and cover artwork for musicians including Hot Chip, Franz Ferdinand, Blur, David Byrne, Jason Mraz and Bonnie Prince Billy, as well as releasing two spoken word records.

Correcto consists of Danny Saunders on vocals, Robert McCaffrey on bass, Richard Wright on guitar and Paul Thomson on drums. Inspired by fact, fiction, surrealism and the mundane, their sound is reminiscent of the Buzzcocks, Kinks, Fall and Ramones.

What the Hell Are You Doing?: The Essential David Shrigley will be published by Canongate on 16th September, priced £20. For press enquiries please contact Anna Frame at Canongate on 0131 524 9340.

Tickets are available from Monorail Music, 12 Kings Court, Glasgow. For more information call 0141 552 9458.
