A Special Event!

Crispin Glover in Person!

WHAT IS IT?

USA, 2005, Crispin Hellion Glover

Tonight and tomorrow night the Cinematheque welcomes screen actor Crispin Glover, who will present a full evening of unclassifiable entertainment worthy of this iconoclastic cult icon. The night begins with “Crispin Hellion Glover’s Big Slide Show,” an hour-long dramatic presentation in which the actor narrates images from eight of his illustrated story books. Next up is the feature film What Is It?, Glover’s directorial debut, a blackly comic fever dream in which a young man wrests with his psyche – and a mostly Down-syndrome cast interacts with porno actresses in animal masks, a demigod played by Glover, and lots of snails. The first part of Glover’s proposed “It” trilogy, this twisted, shocking movie evokes the psychodramas of Maya Deren and the phantasmagorias of Fellini and Jack Smith. It also revives the low-budget, gross-out, midnight-movie aesthetic of Jodorowsky and David Lynch. Crispin Glover will answer audience questions after the film, and will sign his books (for sale in the lobby) after the q&a session. Special admission $20, Cinematheque members and CIA students & staff $15; no passes, twofers, or radio winners. General admission tickets can be purchased in advance at the box office, by mail, or by phone (216-421-7450) after April 10. $2 service charge for phone orders. Presented as part of CIA’s Kacalieff Lecture Series “Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow...” Promotional support provided by Ingenuity Fest. www.crispinglover.com
