- The City of West Hollywood and LA Weekly will once again present one of Southern California’s most exciting literary events, the award-winning West Hollywood Book Fair which will take place on Sunday, September 30, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at West Hollywood Park, 647 North San Vicente Boulevard in West Hollywood. The West Hollywood Book Fair will feature 12 stages with author panels and special guests, live performances and writing workshops. The West Hollywood Book Fair is one of Southern California’s most eclectic literary events attracting readers and writers of all ages and interests.
“The West Hollywood Book Fair is one of the most exciting events in Southern California and I would encourage residents and visitors to attend this great event,” said West Hollywood Mayor John Duran. “Readers of all ages and cultural backgrounds will find themselves surrounded by exceptional literature and those that share their love of reading and learning,” he continued.
This year’s Book Fair will feature such noted authors as Jonathan Gold, the first restaurant critic to win a Pulitzer Prize who will participate in a conversation with LA Weekly writer Laurie Winer; the legendary intellectual icon, novelist, essayist and playwright Gore Vidal who will participate in a special book signing; and Newbery Medal Winners Susan Patron, author of The Higher Power of Lucky and Cynthia Kadohata author of Kira-Kira.
Adding their voices to the public discourse from the worlds of politics and public policy are John Dean, Susan Estrich, Gustavo Arellano and Reza Aslan. Acclaimed mystery and suspense authors scheduled to participate include Christopher

Rice, Gregg Hurwitz and Susan Diamond. Respected fiction authors slated to discuss their writings include Jeff Hobbs, Lisa Fugard, Gina Nahai, Lisa Teasley, Mark Frost, Kathleen McGowan, N’Gugi Wa’ Thiong’O and Mark Salzman.
A number of authors who write for young adults will participate in this year’s Book Fair including Cecil Castellucci author of three books, a graphic novel, several short stories as well as a film director and producer; Amy Goldman Koss, author of several books for middle school children; and Mark L. Williams.
The West Hollywood Book Fair is well-known for its diverse participation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) writers and authors. Legendary LGBT authors and performers scheduled to participate include Felice Picano, author of 19 books and founder of Sea Horse Press, one of the first gay publishing houses; Terry Wolverton, an author and editor of gay and lesbian fiction; Ali Liebegott; and Michael Kearns, a fixture in Los Angeles’ art and political scene for more than three decades as well as a writer, actor, director and producer.
Film, television and music personalities scheduled to discuss their books include Victoria Rowell of “The Young and the Restless,” Chuck Panozzo; and STYX. Other authors that will participate include funny women Grrl Genius, Catheryn Michon; Beth Lapidus, founder of the “Uncaberet”; and Meghan Daum.
The West Hollywood Book Fair will also feature a poetry salon, theatrical performances, storytelling, book signings, celebrity readings, writing workshops and many activities for families with children.
For aspiring and new writers, the West Hollywood Book Fair will offer an array of workshops that include tips from industry professionals on subjects such as preparing for publishing, independent publishing and writing the first novel. New panels this year will address a very eclectic range of topics including immigration, erotica, New Orleans and the post-Katrina recovery, blogging, peaceful living and avant-guard literature. Since West Hollywood is truly the “Creative City,” another great program offered at the Book Fair this year is “West Hollywood Writes.” This program gives local West Hollywood writers an opportunity to sell or sign their books, plays, collected works of poetry and more.
