“We’re Going to Miss You” at GRSF, August 26 – September 20
Reception: Saturday, August 26, 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm
618 Shrader Street
San Francisco, CA 94117
Giant Robot is proud to present “We’re Going to Miss You” by Heisuke Kitazawa, who sometimes goes by PCP, at GRSF.
Kitazawa is a Japan-based illustrator and designer whose work graces video games, CD covers, and limited-edition self-published books. Robots and monsters, technology and biology, and blobs and angles collide, as his futuristic themes, modernist curves, and warm color palette create a glimpse into a future that combines the hyper detail of Superflat artists and cheerful whimsy of children’s books.
The artist says that his latest work compares nature and society. “You get scared at first, but then you realize that it's so much more comfortable and relaxed in the woods than your everyday life in civilization,” he explains. “In the end, you have to make a decision whether you want to go back to real life or stay in comfort.”
Giant Robot is a Los Angeles-based magazine about Asian and Asian-American pop culture that will soon celebrate its twelfth anniversary. In addition to running the GRSF art gallery and boutique, Giant Robot also operates locations in New York and Los Angeles, and publishes art books.
Kitazawa's art show opening will take place from 6:30 to10:00 on Saturday, August 26. The artist will be in attendance.
GRSF is located at 618 Shrader Street in the Upper Haight. 415-876-4773.
