New York City, New York 10022

Weegee's indelibly noir take on New York in the '30s and '40s has influenced our image of the Naked City ever since, but no matter how much they've been reproduced, the originals never fail to shock, disturb, and thrill. The 223 vintage prints in this sensational show include brutally matter-of-fact shots of dead bodies, car crashes, society matrons, strippers, bums, and crooks, many of them annotated in Weegee's childish scrawl, and two touched up with blood-red nail polish. Though often nightmarish, they are not to be missed.
