Zachary M. Schrag, Assistant Professor of History at George Mason University, will present a reading of his newest book, The Great Society Subway: A History of the Washington Metro followed by a discussion. Using extensive archival research and oral history, Schrag scrutinizes Washington's Metro from its earliest days, shedding light on the development of metropolitan Washington, postwar urban policy, and the promises, and limits of rapid transit in American cities.
