Englewood Arts in conjunction with MSI Theatre Productions announces the opening of “Wait Until Dark” running Fridays and Saturdays, April 11, 12, 18 & 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at Hampden Hall, 1000 Englewood Parkway inside the Englewood Civic Center Building. A sinister con-man, Roat, and two ex-convicts Mike and Carlino, are about to meet their match. They have traced the location of a mysterious doll, which they are interested in, to a Greenwich Village apartment of Sam Hendrix, and his blind wife Suzy. Sam had apparently been persuaded by a strange woman to transport the doll across the Canadian border, not knowing that sewn inside were several grams of heroin. When the woman is murdered the situation becomes more urgent. The con-man and his ex-convicts, through a cleverly constructed deception, convince Suzy that the police have implicated Sam in this woman's murder, and the doll, which she believes is the key to his innocence, is evidence. She refuses to reveal its location, and with the help of a young neighbor, figures out she is the victim of a bizarre charade. But when Roat kills his associates, a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues between the two. Suzy knows the only way to play fair is by her rules, so when darkness falls she turns off all the lights leaving both of them to maneuver in the dark until the game ends.

Cast member chimes in. Since the show only runs two weeks I thought I would write something up so at least you could make an informed decision. This is a great play. Not only is the story interesting and creepy, the set is eye pleasing and the acting is great. Under the very accomplished direction of Jerry Schnell, this is a show not to be missed. Michelle Grimes, who plays the lead Sally Hendrix, is a Broadway caliber actress and is worth catching in any show she is in. Scott Hogg, her co-lead, has all the tools to really drive home his complex character. James Murphy plays Roat and perhaps one the creepiest character I have seen on stage stage. Fourteen year old Bailey Sorrel does a great job playing 11-year old Gloria. Tim Brandon steps up nicely to play the endearing Mr. Hendrix. Me? I play Sgt. Carlino, and you'll need to judge me for yourself.
