Now in its 22nd year, the VSA arts Playwright Discovery Program invites middle and high school students to express their views about disability through the art of writing a one-act play. This year’s winning script is Mistakes Inc., by 18-year-old Jonathan Mayer of Longwood, Florida. Mistakes Inc. was selected by a panel of theater professionals out of a field of 250 scripts. Mayer’s clever play challenges the audience to imagine what would happen if they could have their mistakes erased by simply calling a 1-800 number.

Directed by Paul-Douglas Michnewicz, Mistakes Inc. will be performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on September 28, 2006 as the highlight of the VSA arts celebration of the literary arts. The evening will also showcase flash fiction and poetry by young writers with and without disabilities.

VSA arts is an international nonprofit organization founded in 1974 by Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith to create a society where people with disabilities learn through, participate in and enjoy the arts. Each year millions of people participate in VSA arts programs through a nationwide network of affiliates and in more than 60 countries around the world. VSA arts is an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
