Voices of Gotham - Barbershop Auditions (male) June 5, 2008

My name's Steve Skolnick and I'm serving as a point of contact for the newly formed Voices of Gotham (VoG) Chorus that rehearses in Hell's Kitchen.

We're currently in the process of auditioning new members.

The Voices of Gotham was formed in January '08. We are a primarily a barbershop chorus (all male), but we are developing a varied repertoire that strays from that path, for example, No Not Much (Forever Plaid), Angel Eyes (Four Freshman), Oh Darling (the Beatles), and killer modern arrangements of Orange Colored Sky and
Paper Moon.

Currently we have 20 singers with a median age of 28...so, we're not your grandfather's barbershop chorus. We only rehearse once every 3 weeks. VoG formed with the intent of attracting busy professionals, musicians, actors, educators, etc. - people who simply don't have the available time that most bbshop chapters require for membership.

We, instead, decided to form a chapter where rehearsals would be kept to a minimum and the membership would be comprised of high-caliber performers - i.e., people that do their work outside rehearsals and come prepared to work efficiently.

Also, this un-intrusive rehearsal schedule allows our members to pursue other barbershop or performing arts interests without having to choose between one or the other - i.e., quartetting, singing in other area choruses, performing in plays, playing in orchestras, etc. We believe the varied interests in our membership only serve to strengthen our organization.

VoG is Directed by Larry Bomback - Tenor, Road Trip, 2008 Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Champions; also, Tenor, 'Round Midnight, 2nd place and Audience Favorite, 2008 New York Harmony Sweepstakes.
