his joint-conference is a forum for researchers and designers to present and discuss various aspects of VLSI design, electronic design automation (EDA), enabling technologies, and embedded systems. It covers the entire spectrum of activities in the two vital areas of VLSI and embedded systems, which underpin the semiconductor industry. The five-day program will consist of regular paper sessions, special sessions, embedded tutorials, panel discussions, design contest, industrial exhibits and two days of tutorials.

TOPICS OF INTEREST: Papers are invited on topics related to, but not limited to, the following areas: VLSI ? Gigascale design methodologies, processor and memory design, analog-digital-RF mixed signal SoC, Structured ASICs, concurrent interconnect, package and board design, low-power design, asynchronous design, physical design, impact of process technology on design, defect tolerant architectures, synthesis, test and DFT, formal verification, mixed signal-mixed domain CAD, Issues in nano-CMOS technologies, non-classical CMOS, non-CMOS devices, phase change memory, technology modeling-design-simulation, gigascale integrated circuit manufacturing, DFM, DFY, reliability, MEMS, CMOS sensors, CAD/EDA methodologies for nanotechnology design flows, EDA tool issues in deep sub-micron design.

Embedded Systems - Embedded system hardware/software co-design, reconfigurable hardware design, FPGA/ASIC-based design, DSP, communications, encryption, security, compression, digital imaging, hybrid systems-on-chip, sensor networks, programmable devices, hardware-software co-design and co-verification

PAPER SUBMISSION: Please submit previously unpublished papers electronically (as pdf files) on the conference website by July 14, 2006 . The manuscript should clearly state the novel ideas, results and applications of the contribution. Submissions will undergo BLIND REVIEW. On the web site, please provide the abstract of the paper, name, address, e-mail, telephone and/or fax numbers of all authors with the contact author identified. Papers should not exceed 6 single-spaced pages including figures and references in two-column IEEE conference paper format, unless you are willing to buy 1 or 2 more pages if the paper is accepted (indicate this in a footnote in the paper). Proposals for embedded tutorials in emerging areas should be submitted as an extended abstract (pdf file) not exceeding 4 pages. Authors will be notified of acceptance by September 1, 2006. Camera-ready papers should be submitted on the conference website by September 29, 2006.

TUTORIALS: This joint-conference also has a history of running a highly successful series of tutorials. Two days will be dedicated to full-day tutorials on recent topics in VLSI design, EDA, VLSI technology and embedded systems. Topics are open at this time, and speakers are encouraged to submit proposals to Tutorial Chairs through the conference website by July 14, 2006.

SPECIAL SESSIONS/PANELS: Proposals for special sessions (a set of related papers on a subject) will be considered for inclusion in the technical program. A special session proposal should include a two-page summary of the session and a list of papers. Papers in the list should be submitted according to the paper submission guidelines. The proposal should be submitted on the website by July 21, 2006. Papers that are part of a special session will go through the same peer review process as regular papers.

EXHIBITS: The conference provides a unique opportunity for vendors of VLSI design tools and services to display their products/services. Exhibition space is limited and those interested should immediately contact the Exhibits Chairs.

DESIGN CONTEST: Please check conference website for contest rules and submit entries by July 28, 2006 .

AWARDS: Prof. A. K. Choudhury Best Paper Award, Prof. N. N. Biswas Best Student Paper Award, Honorable Mention Awards and Design Contest Awards will be given. Student authors should be identified on the manuscripts. Papers with at least one student author will be eligible for the Best Student Paper Award.

FELLOWSHIPS: The Steering Committee will award fellowships, based on need and merit, to partially cover the expenses of attendees from India . Submit applications by October 13, 2006 , at the conference website.
