VivaFest events will launch during Cinco de Mayo, with the first event of the festival season scheduled for Friday, May 4, a lecture and interview with Javier Sicilia, an author, journalist and peace advocate from Mexico. Sicilia has emerged as a leading international social justice and advocate for peace following the brutal murder of his son by drug traffickers in March of last year. Hailed by the New York Times as “the poet who can save Mexico,” he founded Mexico’s Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity (MPJD).

“An Evening of Conversation with Javier Sicilia” is co-presented with Global Exchange and the Student Union of San Jose State University, in association with Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and will be held at the Morris Daily Auditorium on the San Jose State University campus at 7:30 PM. Joining the conversation is CNN commentator Ruben Navarette.

General admission tickets will be available beginning April 16 for the May 4 event at San Jose State University’s Morris Dailey Auditorium by calling the box office at 408-924-6333.
