The second lecture in this series will be given by Emeritus Professor John Parkington from the University of Cape Town. He will be speaking on early ancestory in The Cape.

All evidence points to Southern Africa as the place where our species emerged. What remains to be demonstrated are the circumstances of this emergence and the connections between changes in diet, the encephalisation that characterises our species and the manifestation of complex symbolic behaviours. Excavations at the site of Diepkloof in the Cape, South Africa throw light on these issues.
