On October 19 and 21, The Storytellers Project will conduct two oral history day-long events designed to collect and preserve the personal recollections of U.S. wartime Veterans, as well as homefront civilians who worked in support of the armed forces, to honor their service and share their stories with current and future generations.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that World War II Veterans are dying at a rate of 1,056 a day - more than 385,000 a year. Of the approximately 16 million Americans who served in the armed forces during WWII, estimates are that fewer than 4 million are alive today. As these individuals slip away, so does the opportunity to capture their unique stories.

The two Storytellers Project event days, taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday October 19 (WWII/Survivors of Pearl Harbor) and Wednesday October 21 (all other Veterans) at Oakland Veteran's Hall, 200 Grand Avenue at Harrison St., Oakland, CA, 94610, is designed by experienced oral historians trained in capturing and preserving America's wartime experiences. The events are hosted by the California Pearl Harbor Association and the Veteran's Memorial Building in Oakland.

"Story of My Life, a modern-day online museum, helps me and other Veterans keep our memories and stories alive, so that no one forgets us," says Mickey Ganitch, California Pearl Harbor Association State Treasurer.

By making Veterans' stories available online, it is possible to help the public learn what it was like to have served in America's military and wars. If you or a family member served in the military and would like to participate in an oral history interview, please contact us at (925) 684-4424 or [email protected] or write to:
