Verdi's Otello presented by Lowell House Opera March 8, 2009

Lowell House Opera presents Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece Otello with full staging and orchestra.

Based on Shakespeare’s Othello, the tragic opera depicts the jealousy of the Moor Otello, Venetian general and governor of Cyprus, for his wife Desdemona, a jealousy elicited by the scheming of his nihilistic ensign Iago.

One of Verdi’s last operas, Otello is written in an advanced style which brings the lyricism and immediacy of his earlier works to a more modern dramatic structure with brilliant and beautiful harmonic colors.
