Venetian Views: American Works on Paper October 4, 2011

'Venetian Views' presents 28 works on paper by American artists who visited Venice in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The exhibition surveys the American fascination with the visual riches of Venice and features selections from the museum's collection of etchings, drawings, and watercolors by expatriates John Singer Sargent and James McNeill Whistler as well as Robert Frederick Blum and Frank Duveneck. Coinciding with the IMA's role as the commissioning institution of the U.S. Pavilion at the 2011 Venice Biennale, 'Venetian Views' explores and celebrates a critical chapter of American artists' enduring engagement with Venice.
