WATCH YOUNG TALENT DEVELOP!
Second-year students of the Maryland Opera Studio perform their first complete opera together following a year of scene study. This minimally-produced Fall opera is probably more difficult for singers than the elaborate Spring production because there is nothing for them to hide behind. Production values are minimal -- basic props and furniture, no wigs or make-up, only the artist and the light. Simple muslin costumes allow them to understand and master movement with clothing of a particular period. Musical accompaniment is provided by piano only, not an orchestra. The emphasis is on the singer and his or her creation.

SYNOPSIS
Shakespeare’s classic tale of magic and romance sings! In an enchanted wood near Athens, Oberon and Tytania feud over their fairy kingdom while love-sick Helena and scornful Demetrius pursue eloping lovers Hermia and Lysander. Mischief-maker Puck meddles in the matter, and steadfast sweethearts prove fickle before order is finally restored and lovers are reconciled. A fanciful comedy, performed in English with supertitles.
