This lively 18th-century fairytale tells the story of King Tartaglia, who believes his twin children were murdered at birth, but they have been secretly raised by a sausage maker and his wife after Tartagliona, the King’s mother, plotted to kill the Queen and her children. Italian dramatist Carlo Gozzi uses satiric humor and stylized characters from the Commedia dell’Arte form to lead us on an illusory and prophetic journey of human experience, exploring temptation, greed, power and love — where everything rests on the wings of a mysterious green bird.
