Host: The Heritage Foundation. United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) works to synchronize transportation, sustainment, and distribution to our nation’s warfighters. Each week, TRANSCOM conducts more than 1,900 air missions, orchestrates the movement of 25 ships, and delivers 10,000 ground shipments. It is the work of TRANSCOM that enables the United States to project its power globally in support of ongoing military and humanitarian operations. When the Department of Defense made the decision to invest in mine-resistant, ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles to protect our soldiers in harms way, it was TRANSCOM that was tasked with the responsibility of delivering of over 5,000 MRAPs into theater in a timely manner. Likewise, to keep our planes and tanks running, TRANSCOM manages the delivery of 53.7 billion barrels of oil by sea each week. Join us as General Schwartz, the second speaker in our Combatant Command Series, discusses the important role his command plays in coordinating the movement of military assets in support of our national security objectives.
