It comes as no surprise to find that Epic45 grew up - and still reside - in a small rural village in the heartland of the English Midlands. Based around the nucleus of 27 year old school friends Ben Holton and Rob Glover, Epic45 have had a varied and fluid line-up since their debut in 1999, releasing a series of highly acclaimed EPs and albums for labels such as Bearos, Awkward Silence and Where Are My Records. The band has also received radio airplay from the late John Peel, Steve Lamacq and Verity Sharp over the past few years. Inspired by their surroundings, blissful childhood summers and mysterious/inspiring walks the duo has been making music for more than a decade. Their latest album ‘May Your Heart be the Map’ (released themselves via the ‘Make Mine Music’ co-operative label) sees Epic45 concentrating on a more bucolic sound, mixing cyclical acoustic guitars, chiming reverbs and field recordings. Using a blend of analogue tape and digital editing/processing, they create a sense of hazy half-remembered childhood memories yet still reflect the harsher realities of modern life. The album received positive press from NME, The Sunday Times, Mojo, The Guardian and also appeared in Word Magazine’s Top 10 albums of 2008. After tours of the UK, France and Denmark over the years, Epic45 undertook their first major tour of Asia in September 2008 with 10 headline shows in Japan followed by 2 dates in Taiwan. The band are currently locked away in their home studio in the Staffordshire countryside, recording the follow up to ‘May Your Heart Be The Map’ set for release towards the end of 2009. Summer ‘09 will see the release of a 7” single and recently completed CD EP.

WORRIEDABOUTSATAN

The band comprises Gavin Miller and Tom Ragsdale, who met whilst both attending Leeds College of Music in 2005. worriedaboutsatan began as a side project for Miller, but later became the joint focus of Miller and Ragsdale after their other band, Johnny Poindexter, split up.

The band's mixture of rock and electronic genres can be attributed to Miller and Ragsdale's musical influences, which give equal importance to post-rock bands such as Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai as well as electronic dance music artists, such as Underworld and Trentemøller. worriedaboutsatan's sound, in reflection of their musical tastes, is in their own words, an attempt 'to fuse elements of everything we listen to - glitch, techno, electronica, rock [and] metal'.[4] worriedaboutsatan also employ the use of samples from a wide variety of sources, such as a speech given by Patricia Hearst (as featured in the EP1 track, 'Patty Hearst') and a spoken performance of a Siegfried Sassoon poem, sampled in a new track called 'Evil Dogs'.

worriedaboutsatan's music has appeared on several BBC Radio shows, including Steve Lamacq's show on 6Music and Tom Robinsons' Introducing and Mary Anne Hobbs' Experimental Show, both on Radio 1. Their music was also featured in the 23rd July 2008 episode of the popular British soap, Coronation Street.
The band have so far released one album, two EPs and one single. The first EP, self-titled but known as EP1, was released in 2006 and is now out of print. It is currently available online on the worriedaboutsatan Last.fm page[4]. The single, 'An Infinity of Oncoming Lights' was released in 2006, and is also available on Last.fm.

The second EP, entitled EP02, was released in late 2007 to a largely positive critical response, with solid recommendation from Traffic Magazine (March 2008) and The Silent Ballet[2]. The track 'Relative Minors', features the vocals of local singer-songwriter, Paul Marshall. It was mastered at Transition Studios, who have also worked with Burial and Kode9.

The debut album Arrivals was released on May 25th 2009, through Gizeh Records.

CODES IN THE CLOUDS

Codes in the Clouds are a British post-rock band formed in July 2007. Consisting of Dartford, Kent natives Stephen Peeling, Ciaran Morahan, Rob Smith, Jack Major, and Joe Power, the group plays instrumental post-rock with cinematic qualities. Their debut album, Paper Canyon is set to be released on September 15, 2009 in the United States, and has already been released in the UK. They are signed with the independent, London based label Erased Tapes Records.

A DANCING BEGGAR

A Dancing Beggar is the musical project of 21-year-old Brighton based musician, James Simmons. Having played a mixture of drums and guitar in previous bands, a solo project seemed the next step in achieving other creative goals. Using just a laptop, a couple of guitars and a cheap microphone, everything is written, recorded, mixed and produced in his bedroom.

Influenced by seminal post-rock artists like Maps, Sigur Ros, Amusement Parks On Fire, and Epic45, A Dancing Beggar began in summer 2007. After the purchase of some recording equipment a number of songs were written, recorded and distributed across MySpace. It wasn’t until early 2008 that a collection of songs seemed to link together for a possible release. These were recorded and subsequently turned into the 5 track EP 'How They Grow' which has been described by The Stool Pigeon as a 'post rock treat'. In late 2008 the entire EP was re-mixed, and on the 23rd February 2009 Grand Independent released ‘How They Grow’, as a 6 track EP on iTunes. ‘How They Grow’ takes elements of post-rock and shoegaze and has been compared to the sounds of Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Ulrich Schnauss and July Skies.

As of March 2009, work had begun on new songs for A Dancing Beggar’s eagerly anticipated full-length album, ‘What We Left Behind’ due out in September.
