Actor, director, and playwright Harriet Nordlund will talk about the history, beliefs, way of living, culture, and language of her people, the Sámis, the native people in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Russia. Drawing on her own experience, she will describe the development of the first Sámi theater and the further growth of the two Sámi theaters today, discussing their search to find a model of creating a story or performance in Sámi language, built on elements from their storytelling and way of remembering.

Harriet Nordlund is the former Artistic Director of Beaivváš Sámi Teáhter - The Norwegian National Sámi Theatre Company and is currently the head of the Cultural Department within the council of Jokkmokk, Sweden, the center for the native Sámi people of Lule valley.
