Topics of discussion will include: why it's important for a business to protect its name, and other identifying features; what can and cannot be protected as a trademark; how to select a "strong" versus a "weak" trademark; general protections afforded under U.S. trademark law; basic trademark registration rules and procedures; infringement issues, etc. Emphasis will be placed on the various important ways that trademark rights factor into the arts and entertainment industries, including the concept of service "good-will" and product "branding".
