Does your child watch construction cranes or get excited at the sound of sirens? Does he or she read books about cars, watch movies about firemen and want anything with wheels?

Then you’re not alone. According to children’s librarian Andrea Johnson, that “describes 60% of the preschool population.”

There is a cure. You and your child can get up close to four-foot-high wheels or climb inside a mini-excavator and operate the controls at Cook Memorial Public Library District’s Touch the Trucks Day.

This is your opportunity to give your child a bird’s-eye view of a police car, an ambulance, snow plow, and fire engine and meet doctors, firefighters, and other community helpers.

Touch the Trucks Day is free and open to the public. It will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 6 on Church Street next to Cook Park Library. For more information, visit www.cooklib.org or call (847) 362-2352.
