Streets to Screens, the fundraising arm of the Toronto Public Space Committee, presents the Toronto Premiere of "Downtown Locals," a moving independent documentary that follows six subway buskers as they struggle to survive in New York City's Underground. Like Toronto, the NY Subway determines who can busk through an audition process, and the competition is fierce. The film asks difficult questions about who has the right to perform in public spaces, and explores what happens to the artists who are passionately committed to performing for the public, but do not make the grade.
