Tinariwen are the kings and queens of ‘Assouf’ (guitar poetry from the southern Sahara Desert). Founding members spent the 1980s holed-up in Libyan military camps dreaming of dignity and self-determination for their people, the Kel Tamashek. Their rolling yearning grooves and uncompromising messages of freedom, distilled over twenty years of rebellion, have earned them two BBC World Music Award nominations, countless accolades and the enduring respect of their own people.

Their newest album Tassili features collaborations with TV On The Radio and Nels Cline of Wilco, and was album of the week in The Sunday Times and album of the month in both MOJO and Uncut magazines.
