Tina Modotti and Edward Weston: Mexico as Muse December 9, 2006

For five exhilarating years in the 1920s, two of the major figures in 20th century art, Tina Modotti and Edward Weston, shared a passionate and prolific partnership that reached its peak between 1923 and 1926, when they lived together in Mexico. This exhibition, featuring some 75 photographs, tells the story of their collaboration and includes some of the most significant pictures they made in Mexico, images that count among the most memorable from each artist's career. The exhibition also will include archival material -- letters, postcards, photographs and ephemera sent to members of Modotti's family -- as well as works by other artists, such as Manuel Alvarez Bravo, who were influenced by Modotti and Weston's work of this time.
