This coming Thursday, 17th June, 2010, the legendary Aqua-Booty party appears at The Haven, NYC, courtesy of ProperlyStirred and Obsidian Thursdays, a new event set to reignite the 3-day weekend. Resident dance music superstar Tony Humphries will be gracing the wheels of steel alongside Greg Cuoco, Aqua Booty founder, and Raf DJ, Sicily’s finest house music export.
Since 1993, Aqua Booty has graced NYC and other major cities around the world with the finest DJs, cutting edge music and unrivalled atmosphere. Steering clear of columnist pigeon holing, Aqua Booty has manage to avoid pretense and ego, preferring to maintain a policy of strictly good vibes for sensible clubbers. This Thursday will be business as usual for Aqua Booty as Obsidian Thursdays presents a night of deep and soulful house music.
Obsidian Thursdays is the brainchild of planning and hosting group ProperlyStirred, who are on a mission to change the face of New York nightlife with a weekly theme centered on the conscious modern individual. Obsidian Thursdays is poised to gather New York’s eclectic, artistic, cultured, and socially aware community under one roof for gatherings of innovative music and stimulating sociality.
Nothing could fit the Obsidian concept more appropriately than the presence of native New York trendsetter Tony Humphries. The DJ Producer famed for his ‘Hump in the Homefries’ brand of up-tempo soul music personifies the ProperlyStirred event style. Humphries is a seasoned globe trotter having played in over 300 venues and clocked up over 200 studios remixes. The ex Ministry of Sound resident has remixed artists from Chaka Khan, Karen White, Regina Belle and Donna Summer, through to the Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah and The Cover Girls. A well loved and highly respected veteran in his field, there is no one better suited to give birth to the Obsidian conception.
Accompanying the dance music guru is Aqua Booty founder Greg Cuoco. Greg founded the night back in the 90’s along with Johnny Sender after the chance hosting of a room at an afterhours party named ‘House Nation’. From there the night was given its very own weekly event at ‘The Bar Room’ on 14th St. starting out in the meatpacking district of New York, Greg and Johnny took the event to London and the Miami Winter Music Conference. This success also led to the formation of Aqua Booty Records where Greg applies his production skills to wax.
Last on the line-up but certainly not least, is Sicilian music guru Raf DJ of ‘Raf n’ Soul records fame. Raf’s career has been marked by continuous success since winning an Island Media Records award in the cutting and scratching category back in 1993. Raf DJ has worked in tandem with some of dance music’s finest including Tony Humphries, Danny Buddha Morales, Junior Sanchez, Paolo Martini and Claudio Coccoluto. No stranger to the New York City Nightlife, Raf was recently entertaining New York clubbers with a special mix on the popular Jeanie Hopper WBAI 99.5 NYC radio show.
New York Thursdays look set for positive long-term change, and about time too – the city that never sleeps has been rather tired of late, and a night for creative, food loving, and travel savvy people has been an absent want for far too long.
Obsidian Thursdays will be starting off at the Haven and potentially moving around the city on a weekly basis providing New York clubbing ‘trendies’ with a second home to kick off an early weekend.
