May 1 Elephant Walk (1954, unrated)
Elizabeth Taylor stars in this soap opera set on a lush and lovely plantation in Ceylon called Elephant Walk. Liz plays an unhappy newlywed torn between her drunken, daddy obsessed husband (Peter Finch) and the plantations attractive foreman (Dana Andrews). Drought, a cholera epidemic and a rampaging herd of elephants add melodrama to the suds.

May 8 It Happened One Night (1934, unrated)
Frank Capras wonderful romantic comedy about a runaway heiress pursued by a down-on-his-luck reporter was the first film to win all five major Academy Awards. Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert are excellent as the mismatched traveling companions who find love and adventure on the night bus to New York.

May 15 Laura (1944, unrated)
An outstanding Film Noir about the brutal murder of a beautiful career girl (Gene Tierney). The gruff detective assigned to the case (Dana Andrews) becomes infatuated with the victim. His investigation draws him into the cynical world of New York high society where suspects include the acid-tongued critic Waldo Lydecker (Clifton Webb). Otto Preminger directed the movie, which costars Vincent Price and Judith Anderson.

May 22 Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (1954, unrated)
A gruff backwoodsman (Howard Keel) and his new bride (Jane Powell) try to find wives for his six roughhewn brothers in this exuberant musical from director Stanley Donen. Her plan includes civilizing the brood but he takes a more direct approach and kidnaps some unwilling brides-to-be. Michael Kidd choreographed the energetic dance sequences.

May 29 Never On Sunday (1960, unrated, Greek with English subtitles)
A stuffy American naively tries to reform a happy-go-lucky Greek prostitute in this charming film. Jules Dassin wrote, directed and costars, but the vivacious Melina Mecouri steals the picture as the carefree, life-loving Illia. Never on Sunday was nominated for Five Academy Awards.
