NEW GROUP LAUNCHES "PARTIES FOR A CAUSE"

theSPACE supports non-profits and artists through fundraising, promotion and community building.
On November 10th 2007, theSPACE hosts its inaugural event, fundraising party for the nonprofit: Bikes to Rwanda (BTR).

Bikes to Rwanda is a non-profit dedicated to providing cargo bicycles to cooperative coffee farmers in Rwanda. In BTR, Garver and Lane found an organization launched by a very simple question: "What do you need?" During a coffee buying trip to Rwanda, coffee purveyor Duane Sorenson of Portland, OR learned that many local farmers had recently organized cooperatives to process their own raw coffee crop. Inspired, Sorenson asked the communities he visited what he could do to help. The cooperatives' need for cargo bikes was brought to his attention and thus BTR was born.

In August 2007, it occurred to Garver and Lane: the Bikes to Rwanda fundraiser could be the first of many similar projects. In one day theSPACE had a mission statement, a name, and a life on the internet. Since then, theSPACE has organized artists, performers and a number of volunteers for the BTR fundraiser. Surprisingly, these efforts multiplied and the event has grown into something other than the small party of friends first imagined. In addition to an art exhibition and auction, Party for a Cause: Bikes to Rwanda will feature live music, dancing, a photo booth and much more. This is an inaugural event; many future parties for future causes will soon follow.
