Theatre of Praxis announces a new workshops series in SF

Michael Page director of these classes combines his knowlege and life's experience of theatre and the body to create a form of community healing. He has both studied somatics, movement and dance for 30 yrs and has had to save himself and apply them to his life to heal traumatic circumstances.

Somatics is the study of the living body. It is a combination of contemporary and ancient body based practices and disciplines

In a 2 hr class the praxis will include focusing and orienting ones self, then progressing from inner attention to some sponteneous, personal, free -form movement. This is complemented by discipline in breathing, centering, vocalizations and improvisation.

Michael Page is a mover and has injuries with a major life altering physical trauma. This circumstance, above all, informs him as a compassionate teacher and leaves the possibilities open to all types of people to join him. Those with all kinds of bodies and issues may come in. His work is to create a safe challenging and uplifting space to heal and strengthen us and to transform our relation to our bodies and eachother.

In the next year Theatre of Praxis will be used as a vehicle for Gay and Queer men to explore issues of their bodies and healing one another as part of the Queer Arts Festival in SF in May and June 2009. They will explore the outer looks of the gay male community and the experience of the lived body This workshop will make room to include the presence of chronic illness in our community and aging and the effect on our self image as well as ranking and commodification of the gay man's physique.
