Persian rugs are pleasures for today and treasures for tomorrow, but not all rugs are valuable. Some can be disasters in terms of color, durability and investment. Mehdi Abedi, an anthropologist and connoisseur of oriental rugs, will introduce participants to the history, design and symbolism of Persian rugs, kilims and saddlebags and will help them learn how to evaluate Persian rugs as art or investments. Dr. Abedi will reserve time during each class to answer participant questions. He will demonstrate the care and cleaning of rugs and will schedule a field trip to examine rug samples. Additional instruction will be provided by Dr. Lisa Slappey who has been engaged in collecting, marketing and teaching about Persian rugs for more than 10 years.

Eight Tuesdays, September 18-November 6, 2007, 7:00-8:30 p.m.,
plus optional field trip, Saturday, November 10
