The World of Mahler’s Second Symphony
Gilbert Kaplan, lecturer, radio host, and conductor

It was the symphony Gustav Mahler chose to introduce his music to New York 100 years ago. He said that no one could escape its power. Audiences continue to be swept up by the joy, the tragedy, the sheer life of this epic work. In this multimedia lecture, one of the foremost Mahler authorities takes a fresh look at this masterpiece—the music and the fascinating story of how Mahler created it. The evening concludes with a performance of the “Resurrection Chorale” from Mahler’s Second led by Gilbert Kaplan, with the Choral Society of the Hamptons and the Greenwich Village Singers directed by Mark Mangini.
