Ken Loach's masterful, searing film, set during the last days of the Irish Revolution against British rule and the subsequent Civil War, won the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. In 1920 the IRA formed 'flying columns' to attack the black and tan British troops who were terrorizing the countryside. It was the first modern guerrilla war. Teddy, his younger brother Damian, and their neighbor Sinead, unite and join the battle. Each needs to make difficult decisions on the morality and humanity of warfare.
