*** The Waco Brothers? ?Freedom and Weep? out August 16 ***

Down from the hills in their fuel efficient mini-van with "?The Waco Brothers Invade Jesusland" scrawled on the side in glitter and fire-red lipstick, the Brothers are ready to show off the totems they?ve carved out of the corpses of punk and country.

The Waco Brothers legendary line-up includes an alumni of musicians, originating from the most diverse of bands: Jon Langford (Mekons, Pine Valley Cosmonauts) Deano (Wreck, Dollar Store), Steve Goulding on Drums (Graham Parker & the Rumour, Mekons), Alan Doughty on bass (Jesus Jones), Mark Durante on steel (Revolting Cocks, KMFDM), and Tracey Dear on Mandolin. This is the lineup responsible for years of leave-it-all-on-the-stage shows and legendary runs during rapturous SXSW and CMJ events.

?The salvation here lies in the songs themselves: solid, hearty pieces of roots music that transcend the despair. If, as Langford sings, history is written by the winners, the consolation is that the losers get to make albums like this.? ? ROLLING STONE

*** Honey-souled and whiskey-soured: Sally Timms ***

"Timms blends rapture and disenchantment in a way that recalls those old clichés about why caged birds sing. Her voice, a secretive murmur refined by her native English accent, is the stuff of lullabies. But her knowing stance pulls back from that intimacy with a sweet sadness." - Ann Powers, New York Times
