New paintings by Ron English.

You may have noticed a rainbow Photoshop combination of the original Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obmma mural outside of The Shooting Gallery this past September, though it was short lived no thanks to the urban campers of the Tenderloin. Ron English seemed to be letting us know, he’s getting hot for his solo show November 1st 2008, at The Shooting Gallery.

The brilliant Popagandist, Ron English has once again astounded us with his Kiss-centric fine art masterpieces. A new interpretation has taken form in classical, symbolic, and pivotal masterpieces of the twentieth century. Reinventing a significant era piece to become dynamically modern and anew. Kiss faces painted on royalty of a twentieth century marriage ceremony is at first jaw dropping in technique and a bit genius in content. “Ron not only reinterprets the original, he breathes new life and a new vitality into the work that holds it's own against the tide of postmodern critique.” His now famous style of reinventing classical masterpieces with Kiss faces awakens some attitudes about politics, society and media. Ron English seems to have a gift in many genres of his art that uses pop imagery as a metaphor to unearth deep societal and political issues. We are excited to see what happens when this popagandist steps foot in San Francisco once more.

Opening Reception begins Saturday November 1st, 2008 from 7pm to 11pm at The Shooting Gallery. This solo exhibit will be showing November 1st through December 6th 2008, and is open to the public.
