The London Festival of Photography 2012 presents a new body of work by Kurt Tong retracing and bringing to life his ancestral roots.

Tong’s visual storybook explores questions of identity, nationality, self and country through a series of thought provoking images and texts that retrace and illuminate his unique ancestral history. Tong was born in Hong Kong but spent two thirds of his life in England. Being raised between two cultures, he has constantly been faced with the question “How Chinese am I? Who am I?” Granting equal importance to new photographs, found photographs and writing, the work reconnects Tong with a Hong Kong of the past. Winner of the Luis Valtuena International Humanitarian Photography Award, Tong has worked for numerous NGOs and covered stories on topics ranging from female infanticide to ballroom dancers.
