The Art & Craft of Photographing People.

Technical prowess, combined with building relationship and compassion for your subjects is the recipe for making successful, significant portraits.

Join us for this series of three one day sessions. Each day will build upon the previous, woven together with craft to esthetics. Putting ideas and skills into practice and the opportunity to show work for individual and group critique.

Meetings provide learning opportunities to develop and enhance your own voice, style and working methods. Through demonstrations, discussions, exercises, and stories learn the art and craft of photographing people.

Find the right light for your subject. Learn to use the light you have to its best advantage. You will look and work with different qualities of ambient light, indoors and out; learning to find pleasing, flattering light to portray the beauty of each unique subject. This will be complimented with how to work with people to help them be their best.

Learn and explore the use of very simple lighting (natural, artificial, reflectors) to augment the ambient light we learned about in the first session.
You will learn to pay attention to the light throughout your composition adding and/or subtracting light to make the photograph look as you see it or as you would like it to appear. Again, addressing working with people, their needs and concerns to help them be comfortable with the process.

Learn to work/play with people to help them more fully 'be' in front of your camera. Your subjects' comfort and trust and thus ability to be present and reveal is essential in the making of significant, flattering and meaningful portraits. Refining the use of light and other technical concerns and other considerations will still be an integral component of the day.
