'The Milliner' is a tale of passion, fashion and music. Drawn in part from the Suzanne Glass' own family experience, the play is the story of Wolfgang, talented creator of hats. As a Jew on trial in Germany after the end of the Second World War, Wolfgang begins to tell his tale. Set in London and Berlin in the 1930s and '40s, the topic of the piece is as pertinent today as it was then. Where does the immigrant belong? How does he deal with longing and exile? In love with Germany, Wolfgang is forced to leave for England with his wife in 1938 and longs to go "home," to the culture and cabaret of Berlin. In 1946, despite the Nazi's murder of his mother, he does just that. The consequences of the hatmaker's return to his Motherland are cataclysmic.
