Mercury Café in honor of Women’s History Month presents “Zora” opening Friday, March 4 and playing every Friday at 8 p.m. through March 25 at The Mercury Café, 2199 California St., Denver. Tickets are $10.00 and are available by calling 303-294-9258 or at the door.

“Zora” is the critically acclaimed and award winning one women show of Zora Neale Hurston, the famed novelist, anthropologist, and folklorist who comes to fame at the height of the Harlem Renaissance. The play reveals the humble beginnings and culture of her native Florida and traces her rise in the 1920s and tragic fall in the 1950s. It renders her story, her times, and her triumphs.

Laurence Holder began writing plays, late 1960s; created television series, Watch Your Mouth, that ran on New York station WNET and on NBC television, 1974-75; historical musical Juba presented by La Mama company, 1978; When the Chickens Came Home to Roost, 1982; Zora Neale Hurston: A Theatrical Biography, one of five plays dealing with Hurston, 1990; M: The Mandela Saga, 1995; Monk, 2000; has taught at New York University, South Mountain Community College, Mercy College, The College of New Rochelle, and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
