Oak Park, IL – On Tuesday, June 5th, the Lake Theatre will present its third art film selection as part of its First Tuesday Film Club with the two-time winner for Best Foreign Language film in 2012, “A Separation” [PG-13]. Show times are 12 PM and 7 PM. Movie admission is $6 for matinee shows/seniors and $8.50 for the evening shows. Advance tickets are available online or at the Lake Theatre box office, located at 1022 Lake Street. Please note: The matinee show time moved to 12pm to accommodate the senior audience as well as stay-at-home moms and dads so they can be home when their children arrive from school.
Directed by Asghar Farhadi, “A Separation” is about an Iranian middle-class couple that is faced with a difficult decision – to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimer’s disease. Simin, who wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh, makes all the necessary arrangements. However, her husband refuses to leave behind his ill-stricken father. Determined to leave, Simin sues for divorce, and when her request is rejected, she moves in with her parents. Her daughter chooses to stay with her father with the hope that one day her mother will change her mind.
Rob Elder, journalist, author and film columnist, will review the movie and then facilitate a discussion after the screening. Elder currently teaches journalism at Northwestern University's Medill School. Stay after the movie to participate in this exchange of ideas.

The First Tuesday Film Club was created to expand its presentation of art/foreign films at the Lake Theatre. Due to the limited number of screens, the Lake is oftentimes restricted to more popular, mainstream films rather than the foreign or art movie options. Now, art, foreign, documentary, specialty, and/or classic films will be presented on the first Tuesday of every month.

The art films for this new First Tuesday Film Club have been selected with the assistance of local residents Susie Helfrich, Mary Kay O’Grady, and Bobbie Raymond along with Shirley Johnson of Classic Cinemas. This advisory committee will also secure special guest lecturers and film discussion leaders as well as suggest ways to spread the word about the First Tuesday Film Club throughout Oak Park, River Forest and the surrounding areas.
