Speaker Bios:

Yongping Duan

As an entrepreneur, Mr. Duan achieved great success by building up two most famous consumer electronics brands in China , SUBOR (Xiao3 Ba4 Wang2) and BBK (Bu4 Bu4 Gao1) from 1989 to 2000. When he joined SUBOR in 1989, it was only a factory with less than 20 workers, debt of 2 million RMB and only cash of 3,000 RMB. In 5 years. Mr. Duan has turned SUBOR to the leading vendor for learning and gaming machine in China and generating 100 million RMB profit each month. Mr. Duan left SUBOR in 1995 and founded BBK, and today BBK carves more than 20% of consumer electronics market share in China with a wide range of product line of DVD player, stereo system, and telephone.

Mr. Duan immigrated to US in 2001 and he never set foot in any stock markets before that. As an independent investor, Mr. Duan won his fame of “Chinese Warren Buffett” by his super successful long-term investment in NetEase and UHAL. This successful investment has generated tens-time return with amount of hundreds of million USD for him. William Ding (CEO of NetEase) and Jack Xu (former CTO of NetEase) got to know Mr. Duan as close friend after his investment.

In 2006, Mr. Duan won the auction for a chance to dine with billionaire investor Warren Buffett for about $600K on eBay. The Warren Buffett lunch is a charity auction held every year, and the winner's payment for it will be donated to a San Francisco charity. As a philanthropist, Mr. Duan and his wife established their family's charity fund “Enlight Foundation” in 2005. Mr. Duan and William Ding donated $40 million to Zhejiang University , among which, $30 million came from Enlight Foundation. Enlight Foundation also donated a library to the company his parents used to work at. Another charity activity is that Mr. Duan and William Ding set up a $4 million fund in Stanford to help Chinese freshmen with necessary economic support.

Mr. Duan received his Bachelor degree in wireless electronics engineering from Zhejiang University and his Master degree in Economics from People University of China.

Jack Xu, Vice President of HYSTA, Vice President of Engineering & Research, eBay Fellow, eBay Inc.

Jack Xu was named an eBay Fellow after serving as eBay's vice president of software development. In that role, he led the development of the company's overall search and listing infrastructure. Jack is currently eBay's vice president of engineering and research, where he is responsible for all aspects of the company's research activities and key products development. He is also the founding chairman of eBay overseas engineering centers in both China and India .

Prior to joining eBay in 2002, Jack was the chief technology officer at Netease (Nasdaq: NTES ), where he was responsible for its technology, operations, marketing, research and product development. Before that, Jack was the director of core technology at Excite, one of the first Internet search engines, launched in 1995.

Jack graduated from Zhongshan University with BA and MS degrees. While working towards his PhD, Jack was a senior researcher at the University of California at Berkeley . He is an author of a numerous research papers.
