The Hot L Baltimore
Directed by Terry Dodd
Senior Housing Options will host eighteen performances of the award-winning play “The Hot L Baltimore” in the lobby of its flagship facility for seniors, the historic Barth Hotel, 1514 17th St, Denver. “Hot L” will be “environmentally presented” at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights July 17 through August 23 using the Barth’s existing furniture and fixtures while current residents will come and go uninterrupted. Proceeds from this production will benefit Senior Housing Options “Year of Safety and Security” providing quality of life for low income seniors. Tickets are $50 - $100, groups of 20 or more $45, and go on sale June 5 by calling 303-595-4464 x 10 or on line at www.seniorhousingoptions.org.
The Hot L Baltimore is a rundown hotel so seedy that it has lost the "e" from its marquee. This once elegant, now-decrepit hotel is the gathering place for the lost souls, retired old people, misfits and prostitutes living on the lowest rung of society’s ladder. During the course of one day we witness the drama of passing live events, of everyday encounters and a wealth of compassion and humor as our residents struggle to maintaining their dignity and honor while their world heads toward upheaval.
The cast, under the direction of Terry Dodd, includes new faces and old friends; Eric Hansen (Bill Lewis), Robin Wallace (Girl), Patty Mintz Figel (Millie), Judy Phelan Hill (Mrs. Bellotti), Catherine DiBella Lindsey (April Green), Joey Wishnia (Mr. Morse), Laura Lounge (Jackie), Brian Kusic (Jamie), Joe Wilson (Mr. Katz), Kimberly Nicole (Suzy), Brian Brooks (Paul Granger III), Kathryn Gray (Mrs. Oxenham) and Bennett Batten (Delivery Boy/Crew). It should be noted that Patty Mintz Figel and Judy Phelan Hill are reprising their roles from SHO’s stellar 1991 production, also directed by Mr. Dodd.
As an added incentive in the underwriting of this show, each performance includes a celebrity walk-on role. Invitations for a shining moment on stage have already been accepted by local luminaries John Ashton, Bill Husted, Dean Prina, Caz Matthews, Ed Sardella, Kyle Brunger, Andrew Harris, Mike Nosler, Frank Longmore, Mark Cordova, Randy Weeks, Susan and Leo Kiely, Barbara Grogan and Mark Gallegos.

This one-of-a-kind Denver Theater Experience is the major 2008 Fundraiser for Senior Housing Options, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, providing housing and services throughout Colorado to over 500 seniors and individuals with disabilities. SHO operates 14 facilities from rural Cortez, Kremmling and Granby to the most urban areas of Denver. Its flagship, the historic Barth Hotel in downtown Denver was designed by Denver architect F.C. Eberley and built in 1882. On the National Historic Register, it now provides 62 housing units for SHO residents.
