Legendary theatre director Peter Brook's work returns to the United States with The Grand Inquisitor, a stunning example of his work. In 15th-century Spain, during the Inquisition, Christ returns to the world. The Cardinal Grand Inquisitor sees Him, seizes Him and shuts Him in a narrow vaulted cell. In the darkness, suddenly, the iron door opens and the Grand Inquisitor quietly enters. For a long moment, he stays in the doorway, studying the Holy face. Then he draws nearer, saying: "Is it You? You?" In this austere grandeur begins his speech to Christ, a 50-minute monologue that delves into the deepest questions of faith and humanity.
