"The Field of Wreaths at Battery Park" NYC December 11, 2010

State and local dignitaries, including hundreds of troops from Fort Hamilton, the New York National Guard, Veterans from Samaritan Village, the American Red Cross along with 9/11 family members, family members of New York armed forces lost since 9/11, and local veterans will gather Saturday, December 11, 2010, for a special tribute and wreath laying at "The Field of Wreaths at Battery Park" to be done at 12 PM EST simultaneously with a wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery, VA, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA .

The public is invited to the special 12 Noon EST free ceremony on December 11, 2010. Those gathered around "The Field of Wreaths Battery Park Memorial " in front of Clinton Castle will pay tribute to the deceased from the terrorist attack on our nation on 9/11/2001. A second wreath laying with the United War Veterans Council of NYC will place 88 wreaths around the Globe and eternal flame garden in memory of those killed in action in military service from the New York City area since 9/11.

The concept behind the Ground Zero memorial was from artist and Gold Star Mother Kathryn Cross, along with architect Hans Hansen, both from Glastonbury, CT. Ms. Cross is the President of the Department of Connecticut, American Gold Star Mothers. Through a generous contribution of 3,088 donated wreaths from Wal-Mart through "Wreaths Across America" in Harrington, Maine, 184 wreaths were provided to the Pentagon, 40 wreaths for Shanksville, PA, and 2,864 wreaths for "The Field of Wreaths at Battery Park", NYC, and Ground Zero to honor and remember those civilians and military service people who have been lost since September 11, 2001.

"The Field of Wreaths at Battery Park Memorial" is designed to raise awareness toward those who lost their life on 9/11/01, and to honor the continuing sacrifices being made during this holiday season by all the men and women in our armed forces.
