Emerging Filmmakers Tenth Anniversary Extravaganza!

On May 17, The Emerging Filmmakers Project celebrates ten years of showcasing the best of Denver’s independent film scene with a night of short films and a visit with Oscar winning filmmaker Daniel Junge (Best Documentary Short for Saving Faces).

“We’re very excited to have Daniel Junge share stories form his remarkable career with us this month. He screened his award-winning documentary Chiefs at one of our very first EFP’s. He also met his wife at an EFP and of course went on to win an Oscar. I’m not saying that anyone who screens at the EFP will meet their future spouse or win an Oscar, but it seems to help,” said current host and local filmmaker Patrick Sheridan.

For ten years, the EFP has screened movies from Denver’s new, emerging and established filmmakers and has to date shown more than 800 locally-produced short films, short documentaries, music videos, promotional pieces, experimental films, and a few things that defy categories. The EFP has also screened many locally produced feature-length narrative, documentary, and animated films.

“I screened Water Cooler, one of my first short movies, at the EFP in 2005. Local filmmaker Haylar Garcia was the amazing and gracious host at the time. I received tremendous feedback, met a ton of great filmmakers, and made many new friends. I could tell right away that the EFP was an important part of the independent film scene here in Denver and I wanted to do everything in my power to see it thrive,” Sheridan said.

“There really isn't anything like the EFP anywhere else in the country. As filmmakers in Denver, we’re really blessed to have this screening venue. We’re always looking for movies and new filmmakers to screen. Along with being a great networking opportunity for filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, and crew, the EFP is a lot of fun.”

Built in 1912 and converted into a nickelodeon movie house in 1918, the historic Bug Theatre is home to several film festivals each year, including The Colorado Independent Women of Film, EFPalooza, The G.I. Joe Stop Motion Animation Film Festival, and The Festivus Film Festival.
