Everything You Ever Wanted to Know

Perhaps you’ve heard of the infamous “Beaujolais Nouveau,” and wondered “what the heck is that?”

Well, to give it to you straight, it’s awesome! At least, it can be. The short answer is that Beaujolais Nouveau is a wine annually produced in the Beaujolais region of France, for immediate release on the third Thursday of November as a sort of party wine to celebrate the end of harvest. The grapes get picked, crushed, fermented into wine, and into the bottle it goes. Mass marketing has had its negative effects on Beaujolais Nouveau, since some is produced without much care, specifically to be a money maker for the coinciding celebrations. But what about the other wines of Beaujolais? In this class, we’ll taste a serious Beaujolais from one of the 10 Crus—the highest category of classification in Beaujolais, as well as entry and Villages level Beaujolais reds of astonishingly high quality. We'll taste a new world Gamay Noir—the red grape of Beaujolais—to see how the grape distinguishes its personality from elsewhere in the world and, to finish, we'll taste Brooklyn Winery's very own "Brooklyn Nouveau"! Taste through five wines in all during this class.

And don't forget to come back on Thursday, November 15, for our Brooklyn Nouveau End of Harvest Celebration, where you can taste our limited edition 2012 Brooklyn Nouveau for yourself!
