Despite the huge jugs of it at wine shops, Zinfandel is not only used to make White Zinfandel for picnics with Grandma. The debate is no longer up in the air: Zinfandel is THE American red grape, well at least in name. (Recent research has claimed that it does share the same DNA as the Italian Primitivo, and both grapes have been genetically linked to the Croatian Crljenak Kastelanski—try pronouncing that!) OK, enough inside baseball … In this class we'll discuss some pioneering American Zinfandel producers (including our own Brooklyn Winery winemaker, Conor McCormack!), taste an Italian Primitivo, and two American Zins in all their full bodied glory. And, WE'LL DO IT BLIND! This way, you can learn a little bit about what goes into blindly assessing a wine, like us in the industry have to do all the time, and have fun determining which is the Italian Primitivo, and which are the American Zins. As always, we’ll discus the fundamentals of wine tasting along the way.

BONUS: At this class you’ll get to … wait for it ... taste a barrel sample of Brooklyn Winery’s Rosé Zinfandel as a preview of what you can drink this summer at Brooklyn Winery! Anyone who hung out with us last summer knows that our Rosé went fast (I drank most of it), so we made sure to make a lot more for this summer’s drinking! See you in class. -- Paul Brady
