Chekhov's poignant comedy has been freely adapted and reset in 1970s Virginia, where an old Southern family desperately clings to tradition in the aftermath of the civil rights movement. The outdoor amphitheater at the beautiful Theatricum Botanicum is terraced into the rustic Topanga Canyon hillside. Dress casually (warmly for evenings) and enjoy a picnic before or after the performance.
